With his LED screen installations and his animated movies, Peter Kogler makes references to the virtualization and socialized structure of the life-world through ideogram-like signs. The ant serves as one of the principal icons of his work. By means of the ant and its representations, he takes the observer on an odyssey through the space where he inflates its presence in relation to man. The insect could symbolize the workingman. Or it may also represent his traits – helplessness on the one hand, potency and considerable ability on the other. Besides ants, Kogler has chosen the globe motif as a principle of composition. This spinning and abstract element of an iconic whole as our planet is certainly one of the most direct ways to express an idea of unity and the concern of citizens worldwide and from different cultural horizons. This symbol used by the artist fits perfectly into the spirit of a universal exhibition, although it will randomly appear on the vellum of the Expo Boulevard.
